Game 7 for Washington and Pittsburgh...I don't even know what to say. All I know is it was a major disappointment. Horrible way to end such an amazing series.

So, Pittsburgh took it in game 7, Detroit took it in game 7, but Anahiem did put up a fight. Now, the best game 7 is still in progress: Boston vs. Carolina, OVERTIME. This is going to be intense.

Amazing game, but sadly Carolina took it.

Recap on second round:

Detroit vs. Anaheim - 4-3
Chicago vs. Vancouver - 4-2
Carolina vs. Boston - 4-3
Pittsburgh vs. Washington - 4-3

I have to say, this has been the best series in years, and we will not see a series like this again for awhile. I loved it.

Conference finals:

Detroit vs. Chicago
Pittsburgh vs. Carolina

I hate to say it, but there's a very good chance that we will see a repeat of last year.

Did everyone lose interest all ready?

Western Conf.
Detroit 1-0

Eastern Conf.
Pittsburgh 1-0

Its either gonna be a rematch from last years Stanley Cup Playoffs, or a rematch of the 2002 Stanley Cup Playoffs :P

2-1 Detroit
3-0 Pittsburgh

Yeah, I'm thinking it's a last year rematch. Hawks got lucky in game 3 after letting the Wings back in it. I'm saying both end in 5.

I've completely lost interest in the playoffs. Been there, done that last year. Unless Chicago magically pulls something out of their ass, it's Pittsburgh vs. Detroit again. I'll probably watch some of the games in the finals, though.

I have been following Pittsburgh all playoffs, and I must say that they look great! Watching Crosby and Malkin has been a real treat, and they have really been putting on a show against Carolina.

Definitely going to be a Detroit-Pittsburgh final, though I think that Chicago will go down in under 6.

Pittsburgh has my prediction for the cup.

So, Pittsburgh sweeps Carolina, Detroit beats Chicago 4-1.

I say Detroit is taking it again, but I wouldn't be surprised if Pittsburgh wins.

Meh, Chicago did pretty good in the last two games given that Huet was in goal instead of Khabibulin. I still think Detroit would have won if Khabi played, but it would've been at least 6.

Penguins all the way, although I do second the following:

Edit: I'm not trying to blame Huet for the losses - for my money Huet's save to force overtime was the save of the playoffs so far, especially when you consider that if it goes in the season's over.

So, Detroit leads the series 2-0, no surprise in that. I think they'll win it in game 5/6.

Pens are in trouble. They got lucky that the NHL knew what was best for them and didn't suspend Malkin (SP?) They have a chance at home but I still think Wings will take it, again. >.>

Malkin should have been suspended. Regardless of what the best for them is, he should have been suspended. Just goes to show how shitty the league is (not only this league, all sports leagues do dumb shit like this). It's not like Malkin is going to win it for them. They'll get a game or two at home, but they aren't beating Detroit.

Yeah, what was the deal with that? The statement I read from the League amounted to "We usually suspend guys for starting fights like this in the last couple minutes, but we're not suspending this guy for starting a fight like this in the last couple minutes." They quoted the rule, and then failed to explain why this incident didn't apply even though the refs on the ice clearly knew it did. Yeah, great job guys. I'm pretty sure Malkin would've been suspended if he had been wearing a red sweater.

Incidentally, Go Red Wings! I started following pro hockey seriously in the 96-97 season; at the time I lived in Akron, Ohio and Columbus didn't have a franchise yet. The closest teams to me were Detroit and Pittsburgh (oddly enough) but, as a Browns fan, I already hated the Steelers and wasn't about to root for Pittsburgh in one sport and against them in another. So I picked Detroit and they went on to win their first Cup in 42 years, and forged a dynasty too! I've noticed, though, that if I watch them in the first two rounds, they tend to lose. I only allow myself to watch Red Wings playoff hockey when they reach the Western Finals, which I don't think they've ever lost while I was watching.

They said it had to do with them not having tie downs on their jersey or some stupid crap like that. Yes he should have been suspended I agree, but in the NHL's mind it is better to have him on the ice for the Cup finals then suspended. I believe he is the leading point scorer in the playoffs.

Yeah, the NHL does seem to do stuff like that, I think their officiating is a little more political than it is in other sports. When a goal is under review and they send the call to Toronto, they nearly always side with the home team as near as I can tell. And in this situation, sending Malkin off the ice for a game would utterly screw the Penguins. Against a perennial contender like Detroit, the League probably wants to keep the possibility of an upset alive; not because they hate the Wings but because it's better for the sport. I still think he should've been suspended, but I think I know why they didn't.

The refs do seem to be letting them play in this series, which I think is a good thing. That probably has something to do with it too, but it's got me wondering if game 2's incident might change that. If Pittsburgh reacts to this like Chicago reacted to the hit on Havlat, they're sunk. Well... they're probably sunk already they'll just go down that much faster!

I read somewhere that the reason Malkin wasn't suspended was because the intent of the "instigator" suspension rule was to stop people who haven't been playing to come on at the end of the game just to beat some ass. Since Malkin played significant minutes, he didn't get suspended.

Sounds like a bunch of crap to me. He should be suspended, no matter how much I want Pittsburgh to win.

Well, you're getting your wish tonight it looks like; I didn't get to see much of the game but that was some of the worst hockey I think I've ever seen the Red Wings play. I had to turn the game off in disgust with a few minutes left to play.
